FAQ

Dental Implants

What are implants made out of?

The dental implant posts are made from titanium. We use this metal because it’s biocompatible, which means it fuses with your jawbone for increased stability and durability that lasts. The fusion between the implant and bone can prevent or reverse the bone loss that happens when you lose one or more teeth.

How much do dental implants cost?

Implants are typically more expensive than traditional removable dentures, but it’s a worthwhile investment in your oral health. The full cost of your implant procedure will depend on your overall treatment needs, such as the extent of restoration required to complete your smile. Our team will provide you with a complete breakdown of all costs and payment options during your consultation.

Are implants covered by insurance?

Many dental plans may cover a portion of your procedure. This will depend on your insurance plan. We will verify all benefits prior to treatment and help you make the most of your insurance coverage.

Do implants hurt?

You will require a minor surgical procedure to place the implants in your jaw. Following your procedure, it’s normal to experience some pain and swelling while your mouth heals. Our team will provide you with detailed post-operative instructions and prescribed pain relievers (as needed) to help you manage any discomfort you may experience.

How long do implants last?

Your artificial tooth (called a crown) will only last 10-15 years before it needs to be replaced due to normal wear and tear. The implant itself fuses to your jawbone and can provide a stable foundation for your replacement tooth for the rest of your life with good oral hygiene and at-home care.

What if I don’t get an implant?

If you’ve lost one or more teeth, it’s important to replace them as soon as you can. Missing teeth can impact your oral health as well as your overall physical well-being, causing problems biting, chewing, and eating properly. You also have a greater chance of developing gum disease, TMJ, crooked teeth, and other issues if you go without replacing your missing teeth.

Veneers

What are the cons of All-on-4 implants?

While All-on-4 implants are a great option for many patients, every smile is different had has unique needs. Dr. Proscia will perform a complete exam and have X-rays taken to make sure you’re a good candidate for the procedure. All-on-4 implants may pose some potential setbacks depending on your oral health and unique circumstances. Be sure to discuss all your questions, concerns, and goals with Dr. Proscia during your consultation so you can understand all of your treatment options.

What are the pros of All-on-4 implants?

All-on-4 implants offer our patients many benefits, such as being able to replace an entire set of missing teeth in a single surgery. The procedure also costs less than placing each tooth individually. Patients are also less likely to need any bone grafting to restore missing jawbone tissue, which may be necessary with single tooth implant placement surgery.

How long does it take to recover after getting All-on-4 implants?

While the recovery time for traditional single tooth implants typically ranges from 3-8 months, All-on-4 implants allow you to recover sooner. The four implants are placed at once and can fuse to your bone quickly and more easily than individually placed implants. This means your mouth will likely heal faster and the bond between your implants and jaw will be more secure. Dr. Proscia will give you a better understanding of your projected recovery time based on your unique condition and oral health.

How much do All-on-4 implants cost?

The total cost of your All-on-4 procedure, implants, and dentures will depend on several factors. This includes your overall oral health, the type of materials you choose for your denture, and whether you have dental insurance. Our team will confirm your benefits to help you receive everything you’re owed, as well as provide a complete breakdown of out-of-pocket costs and fees. We’ll help you cover the cost of your care with our convenient payment and financing options, too!

Teeth Whitening

Do over-the-counter teeth whitening treatments work?

Yes, but they contain weaker bleaching gels than the kinds of options available at our office. This is why over-the-counter and at-home whitening solutions take many uses over days or weeks to deliver visible results. Buying drugstore alternatives such as whitening toothpaste, rinses, whitening strips, and kits can also add up over time. A session at our office can provide instant results that may take weeks and multiple at-home treatments to achieve, saving you time and money.

Is teeth whitening safe?

Yes, teeth whitening is a very safe procedure. Our peroxide-based bleaching treatments use specifically formulated ingredients that brighten teeth and strengthen enamel. We always want you to leave with healthier teeth than when you arrived, and that philosophy extends to our cosmetic procedures, as well.

Does teeth whitening hurt?

Generally, no, teeth whitening is a very comfortable procedure. You may experience some temporary sensitivity in your teeth after whitening, especially if you have issues with your gums such as tenderness or existing irritation. However, our team takes every precaution to minimize any discomfort you may feel. We use gentle products that lift stains from your teeth without causing irritation.
